GUIDELINES AND POLICIES
It is important that each member adheres to some basic Occupational Health and Safety issues to ensure the safety of both adults and children.
Supervision of the children is very important we ask that parents/ carers watch their own children but also assist in supervising all of the children who attend playgroup to ensure their safety, especially those children of parents who are assisting with the setup of the program or structured learning experiences.
Allergies are an important issue, please avoid bringing nut products to playgroup and do not offer children food without checking with their carer.
Tea and Coffee is only to be consumed from travel mugs with a lid, it is important that we are all careful with hot drinks near children and keep these out of reach at all times.
Toilets, there is a toilet located at the front of the pre-school for parents to use and children to be supervised, a staff toilet is also available in the school grounds near the front office it is a child protection issue that adults do not enter the children’s toilets.
Hygiene, Ensure that any children in your care wash their hands before morning tea time, hand sanitiser is provided in the hall.
Sun Care, please ensure your child has a hat and apply sunscreen.
General safety, checking the play equipment and grounds are safe at all times and reporting any concerns or changes that need to be made.
Housekeeping, please change nappies on the low table in the bathroom when in the preschool rooms and in the hall use the locker room. Please take nappies home with you. When we are in the hall please try to wait until morning tea time to feed your children. If they can’t wait please ensure they eat on the timber area.
When moving from the school hall to the pre-school playground each carer must walk with their child or assign an adult to watch their child through the transition.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a community run playgroup, we rely on the support and contribution of the families attending to ensure the smooth running of playgroup and to share the responsibilities involved.
We ask that all families help to pack away at the end of the session and or before leaving the hall, a great time to do this is while the children are sitting for the story and music time toward the end of playgroup.
Add your name to the activities roster. Some ways that you can participate include: - preparing a craft activity or game, reading a story or singing some songs with the children. Another great way to support the playgroup is by sharing your interest with children and families, this might include; playing an instrument, cooking, dancing, singing, storytelling or any other interests.
During the story, songs and game, as a courtesy to the person conducting the rostered activity and to the children participating, if your child doesn’t want to participate and is distracting or detracting from the other children enjoying the activity please take them to another area until the activity has finished.
We also ask parents to refrain from using mobile phones or having disruptive conversations, especially during storytime. Parents positive behaviour and interest in the activities will encourage the children to fully enjoy the Playgroup experience.
